West Pro Junior and Development Squad Riders hit Perth for the 8 Star Sunsmart Pro Junior

Hi All,

The 8 star Sunsmart Pro Junior is almost upon us and to mark the event of WA's first ASP rated Pro Junior in years, West has put together an army of Pro Junior competitors to take on the waves between Scarborough and Trigg and show the others that West mean business.

Keep an eye out for Dean Iezzi, entering this event rated 10th on the ASP Australasia Junior Ratings having placed third in the Brothers' Neilsen Pro Junior last month on the Gold Coast. Hailing from NSW Central Coast, Dan Moore only recently left WA after coming for the Drug Aware Pro where he mixed it up with the "Big Boys" and made a name for himself as a talented and gutsy surfer. Brad King of Kingscliff, NSW has also been making a charge of late and can't wait to get here. Local hope Mitch Taylor will be "ruling the Point" as he does best! The youngest of the West Pro Junior Team Huw Toner, (16 years) will be making his first trip to WA to show us all what he's made of and bring together the whole West Pro Junior Team for the first time.

Other West Development Squad riders competing in the event include Alex Swadling (15 years) making the trip on his own from Coffs Harbour. Having just won the U16 division of the Rusty Gromfest in Bali, be sure to see big surfing from this kid! Long time West rider Tod Quartermaine will be competing in his first Pro Junior event of the year and is sure to start his campaign solidly. Ricky Green of Secret Harbour will be making the trip up and proving that kids from Rockingham know how to surf. Ricky has recently recovered from a broken ankle but has been training hard and surfing well, reaching the semi finals of the last WA State Round in Geraldton.

Danny Williams will be making the trip down to Perth from Geraldton and if his performance in the last state round is anything to go by, he will definitely put on a performance! Jethro Hedstrom and Blake McDonald of Margaret River will be heading to Perth from Margaret River. Jethro is one of the most stylish kids free surfing at River these days and Blake is the Development Squad's newest arrival, but with the style and commitment the 17 year old already displays he is definitely an asset to the team, this will be his first Pro Junior event.

So with a total of 11 confirmed West riders competing in the event and the chance of more to come (the event is not full and still taking entries) the West flag will be flying high at Scarborough from the 15th to the 18th May. These boys are making an assault on this Pro Junior for West like never before, they are committed to their surfing ambitions and to West so lets all get down to the beach and cheer them on as they do what they do best!

Good luck to all our team riders competing in the event!

Kind regards,

Brodie Cotter
