Jeff Clark returns to Maverick's

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 November, 2010 : - - After remaining silent on virtually all issues pertaining to a surf contest at Maverick's since his departure last year, The Godfather of Maverick's Jeff Clark has finally spoken. Clark said that he will be involved in the upcoming event newly named The Jay at Maverick's Big Wave Invitational. "I'm on board," said Clark.

Clark's exact role is to be determined, but he did have a good idea as to what his involvement will be. "I'll be doing water patrol," said Clark. "I'll be doing the Opening Ceremony. I'll be working with the new group."

The news of Clark's involvement with the upcoming contest settles what has been the lingering question around The Jay at Maverick's Big Wave Invitational. With Clark announcing his return to the famed big wave event, all the pieces seem to be coming into place for the Half Moon Bay Surf Group, the organization behind The Jay at Maverick's Big Wave Invitational.

"There is no way Jeff would miss a Maverick's event," said Maverick's charger Grant Washburn, who is one of the founders of the Half Moon Bay Surf Group. "The ocean is safer when he is watching the peak. Jeff and Maverick's belong together. You can feel something special is going on here. Things are as they should be, and the stoke is huge."

Clark is finishing up construction of a new Maverick's Surf Shop, which will be opening very soon at Pillar Point Harbor in Princeton-by-the-Sea, just north of Half Moon Bay and near where Maverick's breaks. Clark has owned the original Maverick's Surf Shop since 1995. "A location came up that was sitting right in the center of the action in Pillar Point Harbor," said Clark. "When this place became available, I knew it was the perfect location for Maverick's Surf Shop."

The Jay at Maverick's Big Wave Invitational Opening Ceremonies are scheduled for November 29th. The contest window for The Jay at Maverick's runs from December 1st, 2010 through February 28th, 2011.
